Back To In-School Learning – I Will Miss Online Classes | Bookosmia
Second Grade started in September 2020, we had a choice to choose remote or hybrid learning. We chose remote because I hated to wear masks and there was a chance that we might get covid.
On the first day of 2nd grade, my class teacher Mrs. Aharonian introduced everyone and my friend Silas was in my class. I was so happy to see him.
It was different because we went to school on Zoom. At first, it was hard then for the rest of the year, it was easier. We had all the subjects – Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading/Writing, Library, Art, Music and Gym. My class teacher Mrs. Aharonian was from my home school and my library, art, gym and music – teachers were from different schools. In remote learning, I worked on Zoom all the time but we had breaks so our eyes don’t get stressed out.
For the first half of the year, we had a mix schedule with all subjects and choice boards. I enjoyed doing choice board activities with my mom. In the Christmas vacation of second grade, my eyes were hurting so I stopped watching TV for some time and I felt better then. Also, the good thing was that my friend was living near my house so I could play with him.
From January 2021, our schedule changed and we had a full session with our teachers. We stopped doing choice boards. I enjoyed the new schedule. We did so many things like sharing our story in the morning meetings, would you rather, virtual field trips, valentine’s day celebrations, breakout room chats with friends, writing stories, creating a book using book creator, art, music, exercises, reading and sharing. We learnt a lot of new things like how to make slides, send emails, google classroom assignments, video chat, coding and science experiments.
My favorite subject is Science and we did many science projects. My memorable moments were when I got a prize in a choice board competition where I made an ‘Orangutan Jungle school and an erosion experiment. My teacher shared an erosion presentation with my class. She also gave me an opportunity to share my own short stories, anyone can win series and hiking stories with my class.
The challenging thing about remote learning was always a technical problem. Sometimes Zoom does not work because of frozen screens, audios and videos.
Remote learning was fun but I really missed my school. I missed playing with my friends at the playground and chatting with them in lunchtime. I missed my school assembly and days celebration at school especially picture day and field day.
It was a very nice experience. We did not realize that we reached the end of school year.
A day before the last day of the year – 17th June 2021, our teacher Mrs. Aharonian called us at the playground.
We sat together in a circle and she read a book to us. Also, we made a tie-dye. We took a class photo and the best part was we all were wearing a mask in the picture. Finally, our graduation moment arrived and we got our graduation certificate.
School was over and 18th June 2021 was our official last day of school. On the last day, we met our class teacher Mrs Aharonian to say thank you to her and give her a gift.
Next year from Sept 2021, we need to go in person as everything is getting better here but definitely, I am going to miss remote learning.
I would like to thank my teachers and my school for their support and help throughout the different yet wonderful year.
