‘Remembering Subhash Chandra Bose’ Essay by 8 year old Bookosmian from Kolkata

Subhas Chandra Bose or ‘Netaji’ as he was lovingly called, was born on 23rd January 1897 in Cuttack, Orrisa. After initially studying there, he moved to Calcutta for his college education. He then got through the Civil Services Examinations in England but left it to get his country’s freedom.

He fought along with other great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Vallabbhai Patel though he did not agree with their way of getting freedom. He was often put in jail, or house arrest as he led many protests and rallies against the British.

Netaji had to spend a lot of his time away from India because of his health but  he continued to fight for the country’s freedom. He met a lot of country heads  to ask them for their help in India’s fight. He also asked for help from Hitler during the Second World War.

With the help of Japan, he also formed the Azad Hind Fauj with Indian prisoners of war. His popular message to the Indians during the freedom
struggle was, “Give me blood and I will give you freedom.” He also used the slogan “Jai Hind” in many of his rallies.

He died in 1945 in a plane crash in Japan, before India could win her independence. Many people did not believe that he actually died and hoped  that he would return.

His story is very inspiring and shows the sacrifice he made for his country, his family and what he believed in. He did not want anything less than complete independence and died fighting for it.
